Dr. Christopher Baxter

Associate Professor - Department of Ocean Engineering

Biography

Dr. Baxter is a joint faculty member in the Ocean Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering Departments. He teaches courses in the area of geotechnical engineering. His research focuses on understanding unusual soil behavior, and recent projects include the characterization of weakly cemented sands in oil-bearing formations, time-dependent property changes in recently densified sands, liquefaction of silts, cyclic degradation of soil strength associated with offshore wind turbines, and the assessment of submarine landslides that cause tsunamis.

Dr. Baxter is currently on the Board of Directors for the United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research and Secretary for the American Society of Civil Engineers Soil Properties Committee.
