I am writing to let you know about
specific employment opportunities for recent or upcoming graduates of URI.
I am a Senior Engineer for the Marine Division of McLaren Engineering in
West Nyack, NY (about 25 miles from NYC), where we design coastal and
waterfront structures, shoreline rehabilitation, and marina layouts. We
also perform above-water and underwater inspections of existing marine
facilities, and design rehabilitation and maintenance programs for these
facilities.

Right now, the Marine Division could use 1-2 additional Junior Engineers,
preferably having, or on their way to obtaining, their EIT. Full-time
positions are also available for engineer divers, who perform underwater
inspections of existing waterfront structures. I would welcome any resumes
from students and graduates of the Ocean Engineering department, and would
be happy to talk with anyone interested in employment here, or just
interested in an engineering career in general.

A given project may involve structural analysis, statistical analysis, wind
& wave analysis, energy absorption analysis, geotechnical analysis,
environmental assessment and permitting, field inspections, underwater
inspections, and of course, communicating with clients, sub-consultants, and
contractors. Projects I am working on right now are in Boston, Bridgeport,
Mystic, New York City, and the Lower Hudson Valley. While we work primarily
around New York and New England, our division has done work around the
country and internationally.

McLaren Engineering is also involved in community outreach, including
holding continuing education seminars at our offices, and involvement in the
yearly engineering EXPO to introduce and promote the profession to young
students.

McLaren Engineering group has a number of divisions: Marine, Structural,
Civil, Bridge, Forensics, and Entertainment, and has satellite offices in
Baltimore and Florida. The company often hires recent graduates, and we
welcome resumes for graduates interested in any of our divisions. Other
posted positions have been included below (most of which are for more
experienced engineers), however we are always interested in talking with
engineers and future engineers about their careers.

Thank you for offering to forward this the the students of the Ocean
Engineering Department at URI. Anyone interested may contact me at
rgilbert@mgmclaren.com or by phone, 845-353-6400. Resumes (with a cover
letter) may be sent to me or the Human Resources Director, John Hackett, at
jhackett@mgmclaren.com.

Regards,

Rick Gilbert
