PWA is seeking entry level applicants with recent advanced degrees. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working in fluvial environments and will want to begin their engineering career working for a firm with a mission driven focus to protect, enhance, and restore water-dependent ecosystems. Our ideal candidate will immediately be able to manage hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks in support of stormwater and flood management, creek restoration, and watershed management projects. The ideal candidate will work on diverse projects while gaining unique experience and professional growth in all aspects of river and creek restoration. Professional consulting experience is valued but not essential for this position. This job opening is in both our San Francisco and Sacramento offices.

Required Skills/Position Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate an understanding of fluvial physical processes and possess exceptional technical and communication skills. The position requires the individual to effectively collaborate, communicate and coordinate within a team-oriented environment. The position responsibilities, at a minimum, are to:

• Perform hydrologic & hydraulic analyses and develop flood hazard maps;
• Manage and manipulate geospatial data;
• Develop and use digital terrain and elevation models;
• Collect and interpret field data;
• Prepare oral and written presentations of findings; and
• Organize, edit, and write memoranda and reports.

Required Qualifications:

• M.S. degree or higher in civil engineering, or related field; B.S. degree candidates with relevant experience will be also considered
• Proficiency in USACE modeling programs: HEC-HMS & HEC-RAS
• Ability to use AutoCAD and/or GIS for design and modeling-based tasks
• Ability to conduct flood hazard analyses and mapping
• Ability to perform fieldwork
• Willingness and ability to travel on occasion
• Current eligibility to work in the U.S.

Other Desired Credentials/ Attributes:

• PE or EIT Certification with a professional focus toward obtaining your PE
• Familiarity with FEMA floodplain management regulations
• Experience with LDD or CIVIL 3D
• Training and/or experience with other hydrologic & hydraulic modeling programs: HSPF, MIKE-11, MIKE-21, FLO-2D, SWMM, HEC-6, SAM, MIKE-SHE, WISE
• Training in fluvial geomorphology
• Knowledge of California fluvial systems
• 1 - 3 years prior consulting or project-oriented experience
• Enthusiasm, curiosity, dedication, initiative, and a sense of humor
